It is fifty-eight kilometers from the Mombasa Airport (Moi International Airport) — the second largest international airport in Kenya. Kilifi is in the middle of Mombasa and Malindi town and in the heart of Kilifi District. The district is 12,464 square kilometers big and 109 square kilometers of those are covered by Indian Ocean water.

Kilifi town is itself a small marketplace that is often full of activity. The town, along with the hospital, is on the northern side of Kilifi creek. The world-class Mnarani club is on the southern side of the creek. Both are separated by a strong modern bridge that was constructed recently. There are two white sand beaches to the north and south of the creek. You will catch the sight of yachts and tiny Swahili boasts (kijahazi dhows) docked on the shores right from the top of Kilifi Bridge.

Kilifi People

This is a native land for the Mijikenda communities. This is huge group of Bantu speakers made up of Ribe, Kauma, Digo, Giriama, Jibana, Rabai, Kambe, Chonyi and Duruma. Of these nine sub-tribes, the Digo and Giriama are the majority. These people love their culture and traditions. They speak native Swahili and their mother tongues. Kilifi is a multi-tribe region also. It provides a home to Kenyan mainland communities like Kikuyu, Meru, Kisii, Kamba, Luo and others. It is also a beautiful home for the Swahili and people of other races who have decided to buy homes and live harmoniously with Kenyans. You will certainly feel the warmth of Kenyan people in Kilifi villages.

Kilifi Weather

Climatic conditions of Kilifi town are not different than other coastal cities. Weather is warm, breezy and humid. From April to June the area receives heavy and long monsoon rains. Short rains arrive between October and December. Temperatures approximately range from twenty-one to thirty-two degrees Celsius all through the year.

Getting to and around Kilifi town

Many tourists arrive to Kilifi from Mombasa city in a ride provided by their favorite travel operators. Although you can enter a Kilifi matatu(a public transport vehicle)at Buxton bus station in Mombasa, you need to mind your safety. If you have never been in Kenya previously, you should use a tour operator who resides anywhere in Mombasa. This is the only way you can be sure of having a safe kilifi safari. Taxis and car rental are also possible means of transportation but you need to know where you want to stop in Kilifi. We certainly recommend Club Mnarani beach resort.

Where you can go while in Kilifi

Gosana Culture and Nature Park – This is a rare park near Kilifi town. Many prior visitors call it a multi-faceted paradise that is often ignored by visitors. It is a rescue shelter for tiny and infrequent wild animals of Coast Province. So you will see dik-diks, blue monkeys, stunning trogons and turacos and several species of birds.

Mnarani Ruins – These make the most popularly flocked tourist landmarks in north coast. It is about two hundred meters from Mombasa tarmac road and is situated at the southern banks of Kilifi Creek. This historic site boasts one of the largest and oldest mosques in Kenya— constructed in 1425. There is also a smaller mosque which is thought to have been built around 1500 as a substitute for another mosque that was made in 1475 only to collapse afterwards. According to history, Mnarani was ruined by the Galla tribe in the 17th century.

Kilifi beach will certainly be your center of attraction during your stay.

Where to stay in Kilifi

There is no better place to stay while in this town than Club Mnarani. This beach resort is built on a private forty-acre piece of land with a white sand beach. It is about fifty kilometers from Mombasa City and sits on top of Kilifi creek. The club possesses eighty-four luxury rooms with air conditioners, a telephone, a hair dryer, a dry cleaning service, tea and coffee-making facilities and other services.

Each room has a beach-front balcony. The resort has the following things too: a large, blue swimming pool; a dinning corridor, located under an open layout house with a roof; three conference halls; babysitting services; a beach volleyball court and sweet flower gardens.

You can certainly have a beach wedding planned by the hotel owners. Club Mnarani is a very peaceful and beautiful beach resort. Main water activities and sports you will do include wind surfing, kayaking, boat sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling coral reef and swimming among others.

Its name was derived from a Maasai word:Enkare Nyirobi. Nairobi is nicknamed the Green City in the Sun. Most tourists who land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or any other surrounding airstrip look for a place to stay in this metropolitan area. Nairobi is an old town founded in the beginnings of the twentieth century in Nairobi province and Nairobi County.

It was made the Kenyan principal city after the independence in 1963. The urban center accommodates over 3 million people distributed over an area of 696 square kilometers. It is situated between Uganda’s capital, Kampala, and the Kenya’s second largest city( Mombasa). If you want to come to Nairobi, you should know some crucial details about its geography.

This is particularly true if you intend to book a hotel and explore the urban center alone. Located 5,889 feet above sea level, Nairobi city boasts a moderately cool and warm climate. It is neither too cold nor too hot. Sometimes the weather is cloudy, drizzly or completely wet. Nairobi has a few constituencies that are sub-divided into small administrative areas.

There are rich residential areas to the north, central and west regions of the city. Some of them are Runda, Kileleshwa, Spring Valley, Langata, Gigiri and Karen. Other estates where you can find moderate income earners include Parklands. To the south east and west of Nairobi, the major feature is the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport- the largest airport in the country.

The area also boasts plenty of middle-class estates such as Dolnholm, South B and C, Buru Buru, Koma Rock, Madaraka and many others. Nairobi has one of the largest slams in Africa called Kibera. There are other smaller slums such as Soweto, Lungalunga, Mathare, Korogocho and others. During a Nairobi safari, whether a group safari or private safari, you can take a jeep safari to various parks that are just close to the Central Business District.

Tsavo East National Park is located on the same land as Tsavo West National Park and they are both separated by the Nairobi/Mombasa highway. So they are both found along Mombasa/Nairobi road and happen to be the largest reserves in Kenya. Tsavo East is actually the bigger of the two occupying 13,747 square kilometers of land. It is located about 233km to the south of Nairobi and 250km to the north of Mombasa. Its precise direction is South East Kenya. Being one of the largest parks, Tsavo East boasts many visitors annually.

How to get in

Visitors can use autos from any town in Kenya. However, the commonest Tsavo safaris emerge from either Nairobi or Mombasa. If you expect to enter Kenya via Nairobi, your travel agency will either book an air ticket for you or give you a ride in a luxury auto on the Nairobi/Mombasa road. If you use a plane it will land on one of the following airstrips: Cottars, Ithumba, Sala, Voi, Bachuma, Sangayaya, Satao, Aruba and Mapeo. If you travel by car from Mombasa, you will enter via Mtito Andei, Voi, Manyani, Sala or Ithumba gates. Entry is only via a SafariCard loaded at Voi Gate.

What to view and do

The main tourist attractions include elephant in Eden, Aruba Dam, Lugards Falls and the Mudanda Rock. The animals include Hippos and crocodiles that live in pools within the path of the Galana River. Tsavo East National Park provides a shelter for five hundred different bird species. This allows a bird watching activity for bird lovers. Just like Tsavo West, Tsavo East has the big five African animals including the leopard, lion, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Other animals include Gerenuk, Lesser Kudu, and Hirola.

Accommodation Facilities

There are lodges and camps within the park and campsites outside such as Ndololo. Your Kenyan tour operator will help you find a camp or a lodge on or before arrival.

It is a part of the Tsavo National parks that are located along Nairobi/Mombasa road.

Lion’s Bluff is a unique lodge built at the edge of a bluff. Beneath the lodge is wide African savannah consisting of varied animals. They live in LUMO Community Wildlife Sanctuary.

Many former tourists prefer to call this lodge a paradise in the middle of nowhere.

The bandas, alternatively called tented huts, are beautifully constructed with corridors that face the massive lowlands beneath them.

The perspective provided from the bandas can be described as 360 degrees. A tourist is provided with a room that has clean water, comfortable beds, bathrooms and fashionable furniture.

Lion’s Bluff hospitable staff is committed to serve any tourists who have made a reservation in the facility. They provide excellent room services and make it their responsibility to mingle and interact with all guests.

The foods and drinks served at their old-fashioned bar located outside on a lush garden are extremely delicious. Among the staff members are drivers and game rangers who accompany visitors to the bush.

Elephants roam the plains in relatively big herds and they can be noticed even from the bandas. Other animals found here include buffaloes, leopards, lions, baboons, zebras and warthogs. Lion’s Bluff Lodge is also a home for many species of birds.

For the lovers of the nature, this place offers the most spectacular sky views in the morning and evenings. Sundowners on the ridge are common in this place. Some tourists also state in their comments that they had not seen the sky so beautifully sprinkled with stars prior to their visit.

If you are looking for a moment of meditation and silence in Africa you should surely spend a night or two at Lion’s Bluff Lodge. Be keen on suggesting this lodge to your travel operator.

The Tsavo East safari is one of those wildlife safaris that a tourist must experience when he or she comes to Kenya. It takes place in the Tsavo East National Park, one of the largest parks in Kenya and is a continuation of the smaller Tsavo west National park.

The park is 13,747 square Kilometers and it is located to the east of the popular Nairobi/Mombasa highway and the distance from both cities is almost equal. If you want to see the unharmed areas of Kenya this is where you want to be once you enter the country. Tsavo East rests on the Yatta Plateau and its vegetation is nourished by the waters of the Galana River.

How to Access the Park

The easiest way to enter this wonderful wildlife home is by road and there are a number of routes to follow. If you expect to arrive via the Nairobi route, you can use the Mtito Andei Gates which are exactly two hundred and thirty three kilometers in the south of Nairobi. If you will enter Kenya via Mombasa city there is more than one route. The Mtito Andei Gate is about two hundred and fifty kilometers north of Mombasa. The Mtito Andei/Voi route is ninety six kilometers and Voi/Mombasa route is One hundred and fifty three kilometers. From Malindi via the C103(western road) you can enter Tsavo East via Sala Gate. There are also airstrips located in Voi, Aruba, Mopeo, Ithumba and so on.

What you need to bring, things to do and things to see

The entry requirement is just park fees that can only be paid using a SafariCard alone. The things you can see include the dust red elephants playing and dipping in blue waters of the Galana River. The Aruba Dam is situated on the north bank of Voi River and is a great gathering place for animals. The Mudanda Rock is a very huge tower just above the above mentioned dam from where tourists can view the elephant herds. Other animals viewable during your Tsavo East safari include buffalos, lions, leopards, rhinos and others.

Tsavo west safari is part of the Tsavo safaris which are commonly planned by many Kenyan tour operators. Tsavo west is one of the Kenya’s superior national parks and it is situated in the interiors of the Mombasa mainland. The park specifically rests on the western region of the Mombasa/Nairobi highway about two hundred and fifty kilometers from Mombasa to Mtito Adei Gate and one hundred and forty kilometers from Nairobi to this gate. On the Kenyan Map you will find the park in the south eastern region. It occupies 9065 square kilometers.

How to access Tsavo West National Park
(Safari from Mombasa or Safari from Nairobi)

If you enter Kenya through Mombasa, perhaps your travel agency will allow you to enjoy the beach activities first. However, when the tsavo safaris start, you will follow a number of routes. If you go to Amboseli National Park first, you will enter Tsavo West via Chyulu Gate. If you come straight from Mombasa city you can enter via the Tsavo Gate close to Manyani. If you follow the Taveta/Voi route you can get in via Maktau, Ziwani and Jipe Gates. The tourist who enters the country via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi (Kenya’s capital) can enter through Mtito Adei Gate. There are also many local airstrips such as Kilaguni, Ziwani, Maktau and others that encourage air travel.

Things to view and do the kenya tsavo west safari

The landmarks found in this park are quite a few and beautiful. For instance, the infamous Mzima Springs are found here as well as some historical caves, lava flows and volcanic activity. The wild animals are definitely worth mentioning as they are one of the main reasons why this park is a major economic development feature. The animals found here include many Elephents, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, dik- diks, porcupines, crocodiles, hippos, rhinos, wild dogs, cheetahs, lions, and leopards among others. A Tsavo West Safari is not complicated since you can find many places to spend your nights and days.

Have you ever seen a wildebeest picture? Perhaps you have not really bothered taking a look at the pictures available online because you do not know much about wildebeests. These animals are the main reasons why some global tourists keep on coming back to east Africa. They are directly linked to the 7th wonder of the world witnessed live in the Kenyan Masai Mara Park between July and October every year.

The adult wildebeests’ weight is about three hundred and fifty to five hundred and fifty pounds and is about forty-five to fifty five inches tall at the shoulder. The females, often called cows are tinier than the males that are often called bulls. The wildebeest is mostly found on the plains of the Masai Mara and Serengeti reserves. The animal’s main diet is grass and it walks many miles trying to search for pasture and water.

The gnu or nyumbu ya Muntu in Swahili are other names given to this savanna grassland herbivore. The cows carry calves in their wombs for about 8-1/2 months and mostly give birth to one calf. The males are charged with the responsibility of protecting the females and calves and are known to run up to fifty mph. They can gallop and dig up the earth when a bull from another family approaches their territories. The territories marks are the bulls’ defecated matter.

The animals’ waste is also very important because it provides nutrients to the soil, which boosts the growth of grass, in return. You need to know that there are white and blue-bearded gnus. The best thing to do is to view the wildebeest pictures in order understand their differences before you come on a kenia safari to view them. While these animals live a cool life, they also face major challenges in their daily lives. Their calves are mainly prone to danger of being caught by the carnivores in their first days of live. Big lionesses are able to bring down an adult female or male too.

You can see the wildebeests by taking a safari from nairobi or a safari from diani beach or even a safari from mombasa kenya. Just contact us here at vumbi jeep safaris and we shall give you a safari of a life time.

In order for you to enjoy Diani safaris you need to know something about the geography of the Diani Beach. It is located in the south of Mombasa, the second largest city in Kenya. Diani is a white sand paradise that covers approximately twenty five kilometers down the Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast. Without doubt, this is one of the busiest beaches in the Kenyan coastline and it is frequently visited compared to Tiwi and Galu beaches, located in the same strip of land.

As far as getting there, the quickest way to arrive at your diani hotel is by your tour and guide company. It will pick you up at your point of entry to the Kenyan coast be it the Moi International Airport or any Mombasa harbor. The recommended action to take even before leaving your home country is searching for a reliable tour operator based in Mombasa region. Most companies will pick you up by autos as soon as you arrive at the airport or port. They will then take you straight to your diani resort.

Where to stay when you arrive in Diani beach region

Accommodation can be booked in advance by you personally via the internet or it can be done by your travel agency. Diani boasts many luxury hotels, resorts and cottages where you can stay during your tour. If you want to work with a travel agency you could ask it to recommend a hotel based on your finances. Most tour and guide companies do not give accommodation but they can recommend some of the best options. They also arrange lodging areas during safaris from Diani to the rest of Kenya.

What you can do at the diani shores

The region possesses a strip of natural coral reefs that facilitate snorkeling activity. It also has around twenty-five diving spots where you can do scuba diving. You can take a stroll down the lovely beach while shopping or you can simply swim and sunbathe under the palm trees’ shade. Kite flying, windsurfing, sailing, and fishing are some other good activities that you can do during your diani safaris.

Have you ever heard of the Great Rift Valley? This is a major tourist attraction found in some countries of Africa. In history, a British adventurer, John Walter Gregory is remembered for deriving the term Great Rift Valley in 1800s. He was referring to a deep physical trench that is estimated to be around 3, 700 miles long. It starts from Northern Syria (Southwest Asia) to the Mozambique in East Africa region.

In Kenya, specifically, the rift valley tourism is all the rage. It gets its visitors from the local students and citizens and global tourists who come specifically come to Kenya to view her part of the great trench. In East Africa, the GRV is divided into western and eastern rifts. Kenya owns part of the Eastern Rift valley. What does the rift valley tourism entail?

Diani safaris – with vumbi jeep safaris “Safaris Perfected” Book Now

The visitors come to view the R.Valley lakes which formed as a result of the splitting of the Africa’s tectonic plate. The fresh water lakes have an inlet and outlet and a good example is Lake Naivasha. The salty or alkaline water lakes have an inlet but lack an outlet and a good example is Lake Magandi.

There are some fishing activities that take place at all these lakes as well as other opportunities for learning. Other lakes found in Kenya’s Eastern rift valley include Elementaita, Bogoria, Nakuru (famous for flamingo viewing and hot water spring), Baringo, Turkana and Logipi. The other type of tourism that takes place in R.Valley province includes animals and birds viewing at various National Reserves and Parks.

Masai Mara is one of the famous reserves that records thousands of visitors from abroad each year due to Wildebeests migration. The province also offers you opportunities to view Mau escarpments, volcanic mountains with crater lakes and so much more. The Great Rift valley is certainly one of the landmarks you want to see when you come to Kenya.
